Adequate ventilation in the workplace etc. has never been so important in rooms/ buildings that have a high density of occupants such as offices, classrooms etc. Staff and visitor welfare are very important as people return to work in greater numbers. Employers are required to carry out risk assessments to ensure the safety and welfare of their staff etc.. There are some questions you need to be asking such as: Is the building fitted with air conditioning and if yes does this just recirculate 'dirty' air? Does the building have a fresh air ventilation system and if so is it fitted with a HEPA filter? Does opening windows and doors introduce other risks? There is guidance and advice from both the Government and the HSE amongst others on Internal Air Quality (IAQ).
We have fantastic range of innovative air quality monitoring devices and portable filtration - sterilisation/ purification units. Following the 'Three M' principle: Measure - Monitor - Mitigate the CO2 detectors allow you to monitor and measure carbon dioxide levels. In areas where CO2 levels are high you can then take action to improve ventilation or where there is not a simple solution install purifiers. The monitors also measure temperature and humidity. Using IOT technology and the cloud the sensors report back to a dashboard in real time advising staff when to take action such as opening or closing the windows or reducing occupancy.
The monitors are ideal for employers, building owners/ occupiers enabling them to carry out air quality surveys thus identifying problem areas. They can then take the necessary steps so that the workforce are kept safer from the likes of airborne viruses etc. In addition they can ensure they have a supply of fresh air to help with productivity. High levels of CO2 in a building, increases headaches, dizziness, restlessness, tiredness, increased heart rate and elevated blood pressure.
As well as CO2 monitors we have PM Particulate, and VOC Volatile Organic Chemical monitors all of which also measure temp and humidity. For HSE guide on identifying poorly ventilated areas click here
As for filtration and sterilisation we offer two commercial grade units dependant on the size of the room. Recent evidence has shown that maintaining a 2m distance may not be enough where the air is being circulated around by the likes of air conditioning. The HSE and Gov say that such devices should use either filter technology or Ultra Violet light. The professional units we supply have both! Super efficient Medical Grade HEPA filters with a very large surface area of either 10m2 or 18m2 to capture and filter out 99.97% of particulates down to 0.1 microns (the size range of Covid-19 virus) together with an Ultraviolet Germicidal Irradiation Chamber (UVGI), where the UVC light ruptures, disrupts and destroys Ribonucleic Acid (RNA) / DNA of bacteria, viruses, fungi and micro organisms thus sterilizing your air.
Marcel Loomans assistant professor in the group Building Performance in the Department of the Built Environment, Eindhoven university of Technology (TU/e) has written a paper on the subject. There is also a report from Royal Academy of Engineering commissioned by Government Chief Scientific Adviser, Sir Patrick Vallance. For HSE guide on Air cleaning and filtration units click here
